Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) - the Foundation proposed and financed a study on illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing--IUU Fishing as a National Security Threat.

The study, released on Nov. 15, 2017 together with National Geographic Pristine Seas, was the first collaboration between the premier policy think tank and the famed exploration and conservation NGO.
This was also the pilot step for the Stephenson Ocean Security (SOS) project that started at CSIS in 2018. The three-year endeavor aimed to research and expose the links between the ecological impact of illegal fishing and other illicit activities on the high seas, such as human trafficking, drug smuggling, illegal arms trade and links to international crime and terrorism that pose risks to national security.
